We had another exciting week with our CrossFit Kids!
To let our crazies out we built and played on obstacle courses. We added more and more challenges, even a medicine ball to be carried along the course.
On Tuesday we focused on weightlifting, learning how to front squat properly. The kids did an awesome job driving up with their chests and maintaining proper form. We mixed up our weightlifting movement with bodyweight exercises, push ups and ring rows/pull ups.
On Thursday we focused on gymnastics and brought back one of the kids favorite, partner work. We partnered up for the warm up and for the workout, too! Our skill of the day was an introductory ring skill, skin the cat. The kids did an amazing job, practicing and practicing until many of them could execute it! For the ones who are still practicing we scaled this movement to toes to ring or toes to bar/hanging knee raises. Our workout consisted of conditioning paired up with our new skill.
We also continued our talk about healthy eating habits. We reviewed what we have talked about earlier (why do we eat – the kids did such an awesome job!) and continued with new questions. What do we eat and why? Ask your kids at home about the types of macronutrients we need, and why we should choose to eat low GI carbohydrates instead of high GI ones and what’s the difference between them! We will keep returning to these concepts while adding a little bit of more information each time.
At the end of the class we always enjoy some more play time. One of our favorite games is our flag game. Even though I thought I can run really fast, the kids team up and get my flag all the time!
I can’t wait to see what the next week will bring with these awesome kids!
