Welcome to our weekly CrossFit Kids blog post! CrossFit Kids is a strength and conditioning program that is specifically designed for children to develop cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and most importantly, a lifelong love of fitness. Just like every CrossFit program it is scalable, so every participant gets the right amount of challenge for continuous personal development.
Every class starts with a fun game to let some steam out before work starts. This week we played a living room classic, the hot lava game. With a little CrossFit twist.
After playing we jump into the actual warm up introducing the movements of the day. Following the warm up we take a short break and discuss the question of the day. Our latest discussion topic is “healthy eating habits”, which was introduced with this week’s question: “Why do we eat?” (To find out the answer, ask your CrossFit Kids at home!) After our 5 minute talk we jump into learning the skill of the day. On Tuesdays we usually focus on a weightlifting/strength skill, this week it was the deadlift (last week we practiced medicine ball cleans). We learned that in the gym, and also outside the gym, we pick up everything from the ground with a proper deadlift always having an “angry gorilla” back. On Thursdays we usually learn a gymnastics skill, this week it was toes-to-bar (last week we practiced rope climbs, a favorite for many of the kids). Some of us executed toes to bar lying on the ground and some hanging from the bars! After learning our new skill we immediately try it out in the workout of the day.
The workout of the day is usually very challenging, everyone deserves more game time after that until class ends.
Our weekly CrossFit Kids blog continues next week! We will reinforce some previously learned skills, discover new ones and dig deeper into healthy eating habits. Have as much joy in your workouts as these kids!
